Great post! In writing or editing an exhibition script, finding the balance between the depth of information and getting to the nugget is always tough.

The only thing I would add to your list would be to make it engaging. Ask yourself what about this object will catch the visitor's attention, what questions may the visitor have when looking at this object -- and write to that.

As a father of a toddler (and as a museum-goer) I fully understand the excitement of a new exhibition. I too am guilty of flying from object to object!
